The river monitoring system that we are colloquially calling the Dam Cam consists of the following components:
- Datalogger: The heart of the system is an Onset Computer HOBO U-30 WiFi logger. This logger can be connected to as many as 17 sensors. The data is logged every five minutes and uploaded to the website once per hour.
- Sensors: The logger is currently recording data from five sensors. Three of the sensors (air temperature/RH, water temperature, and rainfall) are sold by Onset directly. The fourth sensor is an ultrasonic level sensor, which was provided by Massa. This sensor measures the distance from a fixed bracket to the water level, which is then converted to gauge height and ultimately river discharge and theoretical dam power. The fifth sensor is a dissolved oxygen probe, which was provided by In-Situ.
- Website: The river monitoring system would not be possible without the web interface, which was developed for DMI by Envigna Marketing Technology.
- Other Hardware: The rest of the parts required to build and assemble the system were purchased from McMaster-Carr, Harvey's Hardware of Needham, MA, and Newton Electrical Supply
